Catalog Description

The focus of the AAS in Health and Wellness Promotion (HWP) is to empower students to help others through prevention of illness, injury, and disease by effective application of principles and practices of population health, wellness promotion, fitness enrichment, and performance enhancement. It also provides an opportunity for various health career certificate-seeking students to continue their education in a general health studies capacity and earn an Associate's degree. Successful completion of this program will prepare students for advanced certifications through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) and other governing associations.

Once the program has been completed, students should be able to:

Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities as set forth by the respective national governing bodies (ACSM, NSCA, NBHWC, AHA, ASEP) to function as capable, competent entry-level professionals within the health and wellness promotion professions.

Demonstrate an understanding of the traditional and contemporary health continua and the roles that health and wellness promotion professionals play within these systems.
