Description
This course will introduce students to the intersections of Social Justice and Communication Studies. This course will allow you to consider the role that communication has in creating, maintaining, or challenging cultural assumptions, norms, rules, and power structures. This course will investigate concepts related to the complexities of power and privilege, identity, history, popular culture, allyship, and solidarity building as they relate to race, class, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, religion, age, and ability. Students of this course will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for becoming socially conscious, interculturally intelligent, and inclusive agents of social change who are capable of effectively communicating across a variety of issues and contexts and within our multicultural and multi-racial society.
