The HVACR program provides instruction in air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration. Courses in theory of refrigeration, heating appliances, air movement, load calculation and electricity are included. Hands-on lab work in commercial areas includes work on reach-in and walk-in refrigeration units found in supermarkets, stores, and restaurants. Hands-on lab work in residential areas includes work on gas and electric furnaces, air conditioning systems, and hydronic boilers. Other areas of study include applications of air conditioning, temperature and humidity controls, air circulation, indoor air quality (IAQ), installation, and troubleshooting of equipment.
The HVACR A.A.S. program prepares students for service and installation positions with specialization in the design, layout, installation, and service of residential and commercial HVACR equipment. Students acquire skills in HVACR principles, soldering and brazing and other methods of joining piping, mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, refrigerant handling, use of refrigerant gauges, and a variety of test instruments.
The HVACR curriculum is aligned with the educational standards of the HVACR industry. HET leadership regularly meets with an HVACR advisory committee to ensure the HET program is in collaboration with the HVACR industry to prepare students for HVACR field positions.
Note: Tools will be provided for students to perform lab work.
To complete an A.A.S., students are strongly encouraged to meet with an Academic Success Advisor to identify coursework that will meet degree requirements.
